Wellspring is a new Worship Community meeting weekly in St Paul's CE Primary school. People come from different backgrounds and with different ideas, from Buddhist beliefs to a man who called himself “worldist” which he defined as “avoiding religion as they are all the same!”.
Wellspring is a community of local people seeking to live fulfilling, free and faith-filled lives.
Mark Wade, one of the leaders, says, "We are doing this practically in looking out for each other’s needs and the needs of others around us, as well as spiritually as we look to go a bit deeper and explore the meaning of life beyond what we can see, touch or buy. As a community, we want to experience the reality and goodness of God.
We meet around tables in a café style and adults and children have their own separate themed sessions. Over the first few weeks we have explored ‘community’, ‘trust’, ‘hope’ and living water’. We always end our time together with a meal.
One man said, “I would never walk into a Church building, but I like it here, it’s open, interactive and welcoming. I am coming back to this!”
Another guy said, “I want to make an impact on the community. The Church needs to be doing something for working class guys like me. What we need is hope!”
We are looking forward to developing a community that focuses its worship life on sharing, serving, growing together and allowing God to work in our lives to transform our local community.
Frank Hinds, one of our Church Wigan leaders helped to organise this along with the members of the Order of Prayer. Frank writes:
“The 40 Days of Prayer has been a fantastic collective effort. It has been remarkable to see the appetite, commitment and determination for prayer across the town.
Over the span of the 40 days, we had 266 people from 28 Worship Communities taking part … with a couple coming from Lancaster and Liverpool to encourage us even more!
We had people praying for 40 days with a collective total of over 2000 prayer-hours! The final week coincided with the Korean Prayer Mission, and we believe the sustained prayer over that week, as well as all that had gone before, will result in real and profound spiritual transformation, which was the reason we embarked on this journey of prayer.
Thank you for the many words, pictures, prayers and prophecies that were shared. We are still collating them and will share them in due course. At our gathering of ‘The Well’ on October 1st we will hold a special evening to celebrate this prayer-season and to consider what God is saying to us … and commit to the new season of prayer to come!
Be inspired! We are weak but He is strong. The promise of 2 Chronicles 7 vs 14 is still true today, so keep on praying!
“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
